“Even the university's address in Aachen is an ode to our most important neighbour: Am Theaterplatz. The air of the stage blows in through the window every day, because Theater Aachen is directly opposite us.” The HfMT Standort Aachen at Theaterplatz 16 is the Aachen campus of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, a state university of music; it is led by the campus directorate of Prof. Timo Handschuh, Prof. Andreas Frölich and Prof. Skerdjano Keraj.
Future professionals study music here; the campus includes the Rheinische Opernakademie, a concert hall for public concerts and class recitals and a library, and every season the university stages the last opera premiere of the season at Theater Aachen. “Whether as a singer on the opera stage or as a flautist in the orchestra pit – performance experience comes first for us.”
The building is open Monday to Friday 8 am–10 pm and at weekends 9 am–10 pm (closed on public holidays); contact via the switchboard on +49 221 28380-0 or Direktorium_Aachen@hfmt-koeln.de.
